What is Brand Strategy?

Brand Strategy helps your customers identify the differences in your products/services as compared to your competition. They also help to identify strategies that improve customer loyalty and secure employee engagement and alignment.

Good Government Branding Builds Trust

When you think of the word “brand,” your brain likely jumps to logos, colors and taglines. While these elements are important, they’re only scratching at the surface of what a brand experience entails, especially when it comes to government branding. For government agencies, branding is about managing and strengthening how constituents see them: what is their reputation? How do they make people feel? What assumptions do people have about them? A strong government brand strategy sets the tone for constituents to effectively know who they are, what services they provide, and how they are a trustworthy source of information and support. The most important factor for an effective government brand is trust. According to recent studies, fewer than a third of Americans believe that government officials are credible. This is why a strong brand strategy and plan is crucial. Brands are always evolving, and so no matter what constituents think right now — whether that be positive or negative — there are always a number of steps that government agencies can take to foster trust and improve how they are perceived. Here are a few of them.

Create a good customer experience

Rebranding

Reposition your company's brand and change the customers' perception

Corporate Identity alignment

Align your organization's appearance and ensure an unified perception from customers

Consumer Centricity

Build a consumer centric brand and ensure an extraordinary customer experience

Building Consumer Loyalty

Reshape your brand's perception and increase stickiness of your brand to keep customers on board

What goes into a successful brand strategy?

What are your brand's objectives and how do you communicate them?

What problems will your brand solve and how will it benefit its intended customers?

How do you identify your ideal customers?

Who will benefit from the brand? How do these customers feel and how would they like to feel?

How do you identify your competitors?

who is already giving your potential customers what they want and how?

How do you engage potential customers?

What personality and tone of voice will your brand have to achieve its goals?

What are Brand Elements?

Name

Perhaps the most important element of them all. Your brand name defines everything in one (or a few) words. It gives consumers the perception of who you are and it is likely the very first impression they have of your brand.

Logo

A logo is the visual trademark that can arguably be considered the second most important element. A logo should be just as (or more) recognizable as the brand name, since images are often remembered easier than words.

Slogan

This catchy phrase quickly defines your brand’s position in a handful of words. It should be memorable, easy to say, and match your brand’s personality.

The color system

The color system helps you apply color to your UI in a meaningful way. In this system, you select a primary and a secondary color to represent your brand. Dark and light variants of each color can then be applied to your UI in different ways.

Typography

Typography expresses hierarchy and brand presence.

Sound

Sound communicates helpful feedback in ways that express a product’s personality and aesthetic.

Product icons

Product icons are the visual expression of a brand’s products, services, and tools.

Shapes

Shapes direct attention, identify components, communicate state, and express brand.

Motion

Motion helps make a UI expressive and easy to use.

Interactions (Selections and States)

Selection refers to how users indicate specific items they intend to take action on.

Confirmation & acknowledgement/ Imagery

Confirmation and acknowledgement communications ask for confirmation before taking an action and acknowledge successful actions.

Summary

In the end, brand identity is about more than a single brand element.

Shapes and Imagery

Imagery can both enhance the user experience and express a brand’s visual language. Images help tell a story, clarify complex messages that are difficult to express with words, and to show users how to perform an action.

Visual narrative

A visual narrative (also visual storytelling) is a story told primarily through the use of visual media. The story may be told using still photography, illustration, or video, and can be enhanced with graphics.

laptop Sam HomePage

Why visual storytelling?

Visual storytelling leverages two native mechanisms we all possess: first, the human brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text. And second, 9 out of 10 people respond better to information packaged as stories than facts and stats.

Top app design trends for 2021

Our app’s not modern unless it looks modern. That’s why it’s so important to keep tabs on the hottest app design trends, including what’s in store for 2021. The question is, how do you predict tomorrow’s popular visual styles today?

Neumorphism

Icons and buttons have become extremely simplistic in the past years. In 2021, designers are aiming to make them more interesting. How are they going to achieve that? The answer is called “neumorphism,” short for “new skeumorphism.” This hot new app design trend takes the style from the early 2010s and gives it a 2020s makeover—same concept of using real-life imagery, but with new and improved 3D-like graphics.

Analogue inspiration

The rule for app designs used to be the more modern the better. In 2021 however, we’ll see app designers going against the grain and bringing analogue inspiration back into their app designs. These apps incorporate design elements reminiscent of the analogue world: paper and cardboard textures, collage inspired layouts, slightly yellowed backgrounds instead of pristine whites, retro typography and button designs.

Abstract & geometric art

Despite how many of the 2021 app design trends promote realism and dimensional effects, some brands will benefit from more abstract and artistic styles.

Visuals that are easy on the eyes

App design shouldn’t just be beautiful, it should also be a joy to use. Nowadays, with so many of us glued to our phones and staring at screens all day long, this is more true than ever. App designers are sensing users’ cravings for a more comfortable viewing experience that reduces eye strain, creating easily comprehensive designs paired with soothing colors and visuals that are easy on our eyes.

Acting on Our Intentions: Individual

laptop Sam HomePage

"First impression matters. When we perceive beauty with more of our senses we feel deeper pleasure from the design. Aesthetic design gives users pleasure from the start! It makes them form a bond with the design, bond that goes beyond the initial interaction."

Conclusion

Successful branding involves more than just adding brand assets to your app. Great apps express unique brand identity through smart font, color, and image decisions. Provide enough branding to give people context in your app, but not so much that it becomes a distraction.
